MVRDV - Book Mountain Turns Five

Book Mountain Turns Five

undefined

This week marks the fifth year of Book Mountain, a cultural project MVRDV realised for the town of Spijkenisse, a library with reading rooms, lending facilities, a high tech knowledge centre and a welcoming café, all framed in a pyramid-shaped, glass façade. A library where reading is celebrated evident in a design that allows books to be visible appearing from a distance as a mountain of books.

For this 5th year anniversary of Book Mountain, MVRDV curates a display area on the first level showing the creativity and design process that went into realizing the building through sketches, drawings, and images. This display emphasizes innovative use materials, design and sustainable elements incorporated into the interiors. A newly commissioned animation telling the story of book mountain will also be presented as part of the exhibition as a way to demonstrate how ideas become sketches and then eventually the building located here today.

Visitors of the exhibition will also be able to experience other examples of MVRDV’s innovative use of glass in cultural projects both in the Netherlands and abroad – Crystal Houses (Rotterdam), Art Depot Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam), China Comic and Book Museum (Hangzhou), Glass Farm (Schijndel) and the recently completed Tianjin Library in Tianjin China.
