MVRDV is delighted to announce that it will lead the urban planning vision for Hyde Park, a new 19 ha urban district which will be one of the largest developments in Haarlemmermeer and wider Randstad region.

Located on the current Beukenhorst-West office park, this proposal is for more residential towers, retail, hospitality and a variety of commercial plinth to transform the area into a lively urban district capable of housing 6,000 new inhabitants. Hyde Park is set to become a bustling district that also connects the areas around Schiphol airport to Leiden whilst offering attractive public squares and plazas, as well as easy access to surrounding green spaces and nature.

Initiated by a group of stakeholders including IC Netherlands who develop and manage affordable rental housing, and Snippe Projects who have successfully realised large-scale developments including Holland Park in Diemen South and Campus Diemen Zuid, a renowned office district took accommodating more than 3,000-4000 homes.

'Hyde Park becomes more urbanised', says André Snippe. "That fits this place with the enormous dynamics of Schiphol and because of it, as it were, forms the Southern Entrance of the Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam. That's why we also attracted an internationally renowned urbanist like Winy Maas of MVRDV. '

Wouter van den Eijnden GM of IC Netherlands says: "We have already realised several projects with affordable rent, especially for students. Little Manhattan at Lely Avenue Station, for example. In Hyde Park, we mainly focus on housing for millennials working for example at Schiphol or the Zuidas. "In the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, there is a large shortage of middle-class housing. In addition to development for IC Dutch's own portfolio, there is also space in Hyde Park for other investors.

In the coming months, the vision for Hyde Park will be further elaborated to include the framework of Hoofddorp Centraal, the civic participation program which led, among other things, to a municipal development strategy for Beukenhorst-West and the adjacent park.

This year, the demolition work of the first offices will begin and in 2018 then the start of construction will take place. Hyde Park plans to welcome its first residents by 2019.
