The session will examine how timber construction can become a mature and scalable part of the Dutch building industry. While the use of timber is growing across housing, offices, logistics, and educational buildings, public and private stakeholders continue to face challenges in making timber construction viable at scale.
Representing MVRDV, Nathalie will present the studio’s approach to reducing CO₂ emissions through lightweight building strategies, demonstrating how design can contribute to the broader adoption of timber construction. Her contribution will be part of a discussion on the role of architects and builders in accelerating the transition to more sustainable construction methods.
The session also features Robert Winkel (Mei architects and Chair of Amsterdam’s Commission for Spatial Quality), Viviane Regout (Executive Director, BAM Residential), and Marieke Mentink (CEO, Plegt-Vos), who will share perspectives from government, development, construction, and industry.
