MVRDV is thrilled to announce the appointment of Rutger Huiberts to lead its office in New York, effective August 4th 2025. Rutger, who worked at MVRDV’s Rotterdam office from 2011 to 2013, joins MVRDV after more than a decade working at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, where he was most recently a director.
In his role at KPF, Rutger developed a strong and diverse architectural acumen, working on a wide variety of project types in locations around the globe. His passion and curiosity for everything that architecture has to offer, and his particular focus on computational and data-driven design, sustainability and urban placemaking, make him an ideal fit for MVRDV’s wide-ranging, innovative, research-based design philosophy.
Since 2022, Rutger has also served as Co-chair of AIA New York’s Global Dialogues Committee, organising a number of lectures at the Center for Architecture in New York City. Through his efforts in this role, he has shown his commitment to architectural dialogue and to strengthening the architecture profession – a commitment that will make him a perfect ambassador for MVRDV’s work, in New York and throughout North America.
“I’m thrilled to rejoin MVRDV—a firm where my journey as an architect began in 2011”, says Rutger. “After twelve years of growth and experience working in New York and internationally, it feels deeply meaningful to return to a firm where I developed my foundations as an architect and whose outspoken vision, collaborative approach and research-based design culture have always inspired me. I look forward to shaping the next chapter with MVRDV together.”
“I'm thrilled to welcome Rutger as the Director of MVRDV NY”, adds Frans de Witte, MVRDV partner and the director of MVRDV's Americas Studio in Rotterdam. “His joining the MVRDV team comes at an exciting time, as we see opportunities to grow our office and expand our portfolio in the North American market.”
