“The Architecture Exhibition of Tomorrow” explores the evolving role of architectural exhibitions in shaping discourse, public engagement, and the presentation of architectural ideas. Since the landmark 1932 MoMA show, exhibitions have become key platforms for exchanging ideas, but the rise of digital communication has significantly shifted their relevance and form. While online tools and social media offer broad accessibility and participation, physical exhibitions still provide unique, tangible experiences—through models, plans, and spatial installations—that digital media cannot replicate.
Looking ahead, the exhibition raises critical questions: How will exhibitions balance analogue and digital formats? What role will public space and visitor participation play? Will mobile or smaller venues become more central? To explore these questions, the gallery collaborated with architectural studios, inviting them to contribute ideas based on practice and teaching. Their responses, grouped into three thematic categories, present diverse visions for the future of exhibiting architecture.
MVRDV’s contribution consists of two exhibits, a physical model of the Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center in China, and the interactive installation MVRDV.Cloud. Together, they reflect the office’s belief that exhibitions are a platform to share curated reflections on the past, present, and future—drawing from their own projects as a foundation. MVRDV typically presents architecture and urban design through a threefold lens: the physical, the digital, and the interactive. In this exhibition, both featured elements the architectural legacy from the 1990s to today, each offering a different perspective on how that history continues to shape MVRDV’s work.
