850.000m2 on site, almost 5.000 hectare of urban planning under construction and a growth from 60 to 120 staff. 2015 has been a wonderful year for MVRDV. 2016 will bring new excitement, MVRDV will move offices in summer and complete a number of buildings in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Copenhagen, Roskilde and India.
Several major projects have been completed, including The Couch in Amsterdam and The Flower Building in Shanghai which achieved China’s highest environmental rating. To top this off over 850.000 m2 of construction are currently underway. Numerous other projects, such as the Public Art Depot MBVB in Rotterdam, were given the green light to move forward. Previously completed projects, such as the Markthal, having been presented with more awards than any other year. In the hope of celebrating and sharing what has been achieved, MVRDV released a new updated version of the MVRDV Buildings Monograph, with accounts by Markthal inhabitants.
MVRDV are proud to announce that 4 of our current and former team members have independently won international architecture competitions and also our staff made the practice proud by winning the Rotterdam Archicup football tournament.
Also this year, Jacob van Rijs was awarded a professorship at TU Berlin, Nathalie de Vries has been elected as the Chair of the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA) and Winy Maas was awarded the Order of the Dutch Lion medal for his contributions to Dutch Architecture.
2016 looks to be an exciting year for MVRDV, with a wide array of new challenges and opportunities. We would like to thank all the people that we have worked with throughout the year and look forward to working with you even more in 2016.
