The Markthal’s Time Stair museum has been nominated for the Dutch Public Archaeology Prize 2015. Sponsored by the National Office of Cultural Heritage, it is to be awarded to the public initiative which best engages the residents of Rotterdam with the history of the city.

The permanent exhibition in the Markthal showcases items which were dug up during the construction of the building. Artefacts from the 9th century to the Dutch Golden Age are displayed within the walls of the escalator void and, along with a time line of the city, they are visible to the general public for free.
