BNA Announcement: The Members' Council of the BNA has elected Nathalie de Vries of MVRDV as the new chair of its board. Nathalie de Vries will take over the position on July 1st from Willem Hein Schenk, architect and partner of architecture firm De Zwarte Hond, which he has held since 2011.
Nathalie de Vries: 'Willem Hein and Fred Schoorl [Director of the BNA] have navigated the BNA through several difficult years. We work in a cyclical industry, which has been hit very hard by the crisis. Now we are in times of great change, and the lean years seem to be over; but the world of architecture in the Netherlands must not go back to business as usual. Finding positive new avenues of growth for our entire profession which are full of entrepreneurship and creativity is an attractive task for me, and I take it up gladly. I want to prove the relevance of the BNA today and help it to grow further.'
Nathalie de Vries is an architect, urban designer and co-founder of MVRDV. Since 2013 she has been professor of Baukunst at the prestigious Art Academy of Düsseldorf; before that she held various academic positions at Harvard, IIT, TU Delft and other universities. Until 2008 she was Chief Railroad Architect of the Netherlands and is now the acting-railroad architect for Breda Central Station. Nathalie is also a board member of Art Center Witte de With in Rotterdam and the Groninger Museum in Groningen.
