Baumeister Curated: Special magazine edited by MVRDV released June 26

The latest in the series of “Baumeister Curated” editions will be released tomorrow, June 26, and this time the magazine’s yearly special edition is edited by MVRDV. The editorial concept developed by founding partner Winy Maas turns a mirror on Germany, using the German magazine as a platform to deliver an “outsider’s perspective” on the idiosyncrasies of German architecture. The magazine investigates the relationship German architects have with rules and regulations, critical theory, nature, industry, and more.

Maas’ curation draws on over 25 years of experience working in Germany – from the first-ever project by MVRDV, the Europan 2-winning design for Berlin Voids, through one of MVRDV’s early construction successes in the Expo 2000 pavilion at Hannover, right up to projects currently underway in Germany. The impetus for this focus on Germany also develops from MVRDV’s own plans; a new office, based in Berlin, will open later this year.

To mark the launch of the magazine, for one week MVRDV will take over Baumeister Magazine’s Instagram account, @baumeister_architekturmagazin, from June 26 until July 2. Also on Instagram, Baumeister will host a series of live interviews throughout July with the authors who contributed to this month’s special issue. Finally, throughout July MVRDV will be hosting “German month” on our own social media channels, tying together our work on Baumeister and MVRDV Haus Berlin, an exhibition to open at the Architektur Galerie Berlin on July 9, as well as looking ahead to the opening of a new office this year.

The latest issue of Baumeister Curated, edited by Winy Maas with MVRDV and The Why Factory, can be purchased here.
