Another good news before starting the new decade: WERK12, our project forming the nucleus of the Werksviertel-Mitte district in Munich, Germany, an urban regeneration plan on a former industrial site, a 7,700m2 mixed-used development located close to Munich’s East Station that stands out with its bold and expressive art façade featuring five-metre-tall verbal expressions found in German comics, is awarded the "AZ Architektur-Stern des Jahres".
The prize - Architecture Star of the Year - is awarded by the cultural editors of the Munich newspaper Abendzeitung and recognizes the important role of WERK12, a project that respects and celebrates the past, while also creating a foundation for the next chapter of urban redevelopment.
The award ceremony taking place on 4 February 2020 at the Münchner Lustspielhaus will honour the whole team involved, with developer Werner Eckart, MVRDV, the architects of N-V-O Nuyken von Oefele and the artists Beate Engl and Christian Engelmann.
