MVRDV presenting new ideas for Grasbrook district, Hamburg

undefined

Hamburg's new Grasbrook district is located opposite HafenCity, south of the Elbe, and will be the new neighbour of Veddel to the west. The Grasbrook district is not to be developed as an isolated 'island', but in intensive dialogue with people from the neighbouring districts. To enable continuous dialogue and further participation of the public, the so-called competitive dialogue was chosen as procedure.
With national and international participation, a high-quality urban development and open space-related functional planning is to be drawn up as a basis for the subsequent development planning. As a particularly innovative element of the competitive dialogue, open space planning is not treated as a "subsequent greening", but as an equal component of competition at the same time as urban planning.
Within the framework of the 2nd municipal workshop and public kick-off event, the results of the citizens' participation already carried out will be presented on 18 September 2019. In addition, the 12 participating planning offices (6 urban development + 6 open spaces) will introduce themselves. MVRDV is one of the six offices chosen for the urban development, together with the firms ADEPT, gmp, Herzog & de Meuron, KCAP and Mandaworks.
