MVRDV has been shortlisted three major cities for the international competition for innovative carbon neutral and resilient urban projects, Reinventing Cities. Reinventing Cities was launched by C40, an alliance between the world’s largest cities and their mayors to tackle climate change. 

In Saint-Denis, Paris, MVRDV will work on giving a second life to an “industrial cathedral”, the Hall de Décuvage Pleyel. At the heart of a fast-changing neighborhood directly adjacent to the 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games site, this 1,400-square-metre hall will become the new beating heart of the Saint-Denis-Pleyel area. Lead by developer Frey and in association with Bond Architects and environmental expert SINTEO, the multidisciplinary team has gathered knowledge and expertise from local stakeholders and future users around the “Hall 140” project.

In downtown Montreal, at the heart of formerly industrial Griffintown, in the Cité du Multimédia district, the Commune Service Yard will go through a complete transformation. Directly facing the Canal de Lachine, the site is an entrance to the city as well as a getaway to the water. MVRDV alongside co-architect Kanva, sustainable expert Ellio, and developers Urban Capital & Groupe Atelier will “Update Montréal” to create an urban laboratory for sustainable living. 

MVRDV’s “Point Creek” project in Vancouver is part of the larger mixed-use Vancouver Innovation Hub. It will become a focal point for the cultural, innovative and sustainable development of the False Creek Flats area, transporting its industrial past into a sustainable future. “Point Creek” will enhance the local character and offer to the neighborhood an exciting, diverse, and sustainable hub. For this project MVRDV, Wall Financial Corporation, local architect GBL, and sustainable experts Integral Groups have made sure to involve a wide range of local expertise and creative minds.
