On 12 November 2026, Boudewijn Thomas, Associate at MVRDV, will give a lecture at the DETAIL Digital Congress in Berlin. The congress, hosted by DETAIL magazine, brings together experts from the fields of architecture, engineering and digital technology to discuss how digitalization, AI tools, drone-based 3D modelling, 3D printing and modular construction are transforming planning, execution and building culture.

Titled ‘MVRDV’s CarbonSpace: A Software Story’, the lecture will focus on CarbonSpace, a free digital tool MVRDV developed that helps architects to design more sustainably by considering embodied carbon from day one of the design process.
Boudewijn will explain why MVRDV created the software, why they decided to make it publicly available, and how developing it has influenced MVRDV’s sustainable decision-making. Further he will explore how transparent, globally comparable data is contributing to a change in how architects discuss sustainability.
