On Friday October 2 at the U-Care Urban Health Conference, MVRDV founding partner Jacob van Rijs will deliver a keynote lecture on how architecture and urban design can contribute to improved health outcomes for people. The lecture will cover topics such as how exciting and seductive staircases, like the temporary installation the Stairs to Kriterion or the staircase seen at HAUS 1, can encourage physical activity; it will discuss how shared, social spaces such as those included in One Green Mile, Silodam, and Nieuw Bergen can transform mental health; and it will explore how green roofs, green spaces, and water can reduce urban heating and counter the negative health impacts of the warming climate, demonstrated through projects such as Lyon Part-Dieu, Atelier Gardens, and Tainan Spring.
