On 30th September 2026, the Helmholtz AK FM (Facility Management Working Group) is hosting the HKB Retreat -an event, as part of their annual meeting. Taking place at Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, the event will bring together experts from research institutions to discuss current development and practical approaches for climate-conscious research buildings, including energy transition, sustainable research operations, infrastructure, and innovative construction and planning processes.

Yayun Liu, senior computational designer at MVRDV, will join speakers from the Technical University Munich (TUM), Transsolar and Karlsruher Institut for Technology (KIT), among others, and present The Resilient Campus at the University at Buffalo and the Grasbrook Maker, two projects that explore how computational design approaches can help create more resilient, adaptable and future-oriented environments.

After his talk, there is an opportunity to visit the exhibition “The Resilient Campus” in the MDC Foyer. The exhibition, which was shown earlier this year at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin, presents the different proposals for the University at Buffalo’s South Campus design competition.
