On Tuesday, 17 February, Sanne van der Burgh (Associate Director and Head of MVRDV NEXT | Climate) will engage in a conversation with Sanne van Manen, architect and co-initiator of Platform Woonopgave, on reuse, transformation, and housing within the existing city.
This conversation takes place at the Keilepand in Rotterdam, as part of the Carbon Confessions exhibition in Rotterdam. During this exhibition, MVRDV is hosting a series of lectures that expand on themes of carbon reduction in the architecture industry – bringing together experts and collaborators to discuss carbon, materials, and the future of sustainable architecture.

Van Manen’s work explores the housing question through research and design – most recently in her exhibition House Hunting, on view at OMI from 13 February to 21 March 2026, which examines how new homes can be found within the existing building stock.
Van der Burgh brings a research-driven perspective from MVRDV, focusing on transformation, reuse, and carbon reduction in architecture and urban design.
Together, the two Sannes will present projects and examples from their respective practices, discussing how working with existing buildings can support housing needs while reducing environmental impact.
