At the CTBUH Asia conference, held this year in Mumbai on December 10th to 12th, MVRDV will be represented by not just one, but two presentations. On December 11th at 11:30, founding partner Jacob van Rijs will be part of the "Humanising urban density" session with his presentation The Collective High-Rise: Living Together in Dense Cities. His lecture will explore how high-rise buildings can foster collective life in dense cities. Drawing from MVRDV’s projects in India and beyond, Jacob will show how shared spaces, from terraces to community facilities, can transform vertical environments into places that support connection, livability, and sustainability.
In the afternoon Head of MVRDV Next Sanne van der Burgh will be part of the session "Future-proof cities: Human-centric and climate-responsive" with her lecture Weighing the future: Carbon, curiosity, & the joy of building lightly. This presentation will examine strategies for low-carbon design and the importance of lightweight construction for addressing the climate emergency. It will also discuss CarbonSpace, MVRDV's publicly available, free software for designing with embodied carbon, starting as early as a napkin sketch – a tool that also forms the central element of a partnership between MVRDV and the CTBUH in the latter's global Sustainability Initiative.
