Peter Chang to discuss the new urbanism and light as a key feature at Design Shanghai

How does MVRDV deliver the new urbanism?

On 4 June, Director of MVRDV's Shanghai office Peter Chang will discuss the GATE M West Bund Dream Center at Design Shanghai, and how it serves as an excellent demonstration of how the time between a building’s realisation and its renovation is getting shorter and shorter. It used to be that we only transformed culturally significant buildings from earlier time periods; here we transform not only 20th century industrial heritage, but even unfinished buildings from recent years. This underlines how much value every city has in its existing structures that is ripe for designers to unlock.

Later that day, Peter will also present some of MVRDV's projects where light serves as a key feature, referencing the likes of Markthal, the Chungha Building, and The Imprint, before joining Ma Yansong (MAD) and Cheng Gong (Snøhetta) for a panel discussion on light-centric design.

MVRDV Director and RIBA Chartered Architect, Peter Chang, has rich experience in urban and architectural design domestically and internationally, including in Australia, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. He has held positions of senior architect and project manager in a number of well-known architectural firms such as Steven Holl Architects. He has participated in works such as Shenzhen Vanke 3D City, Shenzhen Idea Factory, and Shenzhen Women & Children’s Centre.
