Nathalie de Vries to address housing urgency in the Netherlands at BK Talks

undefined

Housing shortage has been the cause of a lively political and social debate worldwide. At present, housing scarcity in the Netherlands is so dire that large-scale, nationwide protests are taking place, something unseen since the squatters' riots of the 1980s. Would you like to learn more on our ideas on solving this housing urgency, then (virtually) join Nathalie de Vries for the BK Talks ‘1 million new homes?’ at the Technical University of Delft.

As the “DV” of MVRDV, founding partner Nathalie de Vries has led many successful MVRDV projects, with a focus on the invention of new building typologies and the creation of changeable, open systems. De Vries combines her work for MVRDV with a position as professor of Architectural Design and Public Building at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft. The central theme in her research, design, and construction of public buildings and public space is “Multiplicity in Design”. In 2021, the municipality of Groningen appointed De Vries to the position of City Architect. In this role, De Vries advises on current urban design and architectural projects and brings spatial issues to the fore in order to improve the city’s physical living environment and building culture. In addition to her academic work, De Vries regularly lectures and participates in juries worldwide.

The BK Talks are part of The Public Programs of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft, and is a platform for those involved in the fabrication of the city to share their ideas about the understanding, conception and production of the built environment. This BK Talks aims at involving all agents, from designers to developers, policy makers and citizens, and to shed light on the solutions to the current housing crisis, both in the Netherlands and the rest of the World.
