On Saturday 31 October the 1st Inaugural Sino-Europe Invitational Architectural Exhibition 2020-2021 will open in Shanghai. ‘Vicissitude of Vision, an architectural dialogue through time and space’ is the theme of this exhibition where MVRDV projects Depot and Tainan Spring will be presented. MVRDV Asia Director Steven Smit joins the panel discussion at the opening ceremony.

China and Europe, two great civilizations and diverse peoples, have their own geographical attributes, cultural characteristics and development process. Despite huge differences, the two historical lines never stop intersecting. European architectural predecessors' criticism of history and society and their subversion of education, technology, thought and ethics have exerted a huge and far-reaching influence on cities and buildings. In the past 40 years, the opportunities and challenges that China has faced will also bring unimaginable changes to future cities and buildings.

In this context, the Sino-Europe Invitational Architectural Exhibition which is jointly sponsored by Sino-Germany Sustainable Urbanism and Architecture Association e.V. (SGSUAA) and Sino-Europe Architecture Media Center (SEAMC), will link China and Europe.

This year’s edition is curated by renowned architect Mr. Yuyang Liu. Under the theme of “Vicissitude of Vision” the exhibition will form a cross-national, cross-scale, and cross-dimension set of “architectural dialogues” on three underlying aspects: History, Moment, and Future. Yuyang Liu invited Pritzker Prize winners and European masters as well as start up studios and young architects to exhibit.

The Sino-Europe Invitational Architectural Exhibition will be held every two years in Europe and China. This year in Shanghai, China and in Stuttgart, Germany in 2021.
