MVRDV founding partner Winy Maas will participate in an event organized by the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at the TU Delft called BK Talks. In this monthly event, a number of professors from the TU Delft talk about the state of university education in general and design education in particular at a critical moment. Education and research must confront a multitude of challenges: from the conflict between the academy and the profession to their relation to society.
The other participants in October's BK Talks are Rients Dijkstra (Owner of Maxwan, National Advisor on Infrastructure and the City), Carola Hein (Professor of History of Architecture and Urban Planning), Kees Kaan (founder of KAAN Architects and Chairman of the Architecture Department), Ana Pereira Roders (Professor of Heritage and Values) and Sevil Sariyildiz (Professor of Design Informatics). Dean Dick van Gameren will moderate the panel. Students are invited to participate in the discussion with their professors. Together they try to answer questions such as does design education properly address the contemporary cultural, economic and political issues? Does the curriculum of design schools tackle the current environmental and social realities? Moreover, the current pandemic has deeply impacted the way we learn, research, exchange ideas or encounter others. Faced with immense uncertainty, academic institutions must plan alternative scenarios. What are the consequences for the ways we imagine the future built environment of this full move towards virtual means of representation? What are the opportunities derived from this new situation?
Date: 15 October 2020, from 18:30 - 20:30 PM
This BK Talk will be streamed live and can be followed via this link.
