Jan Knikker on transformations in architecture and urbanism at Tel Aviv University

undefined

Jan Knikker, MVRDV Partner, is giving a lecture on Wednesday 11 December at The David Azrieli School of Architecture of Tel Aviv University. He will take the audience through a section of MVRDV’s research, architecture and urban planning projects. Knikker (Deputy Editor of Domus) will explain Winy Maas' vision as Guest Editor of Domus 2019 and how he changed this respectable Italian institution into an activist manifest addressing global urgencies and how architects need to be part of the fight for a better climate, a fight for a more social world and how we need to discuss architecture that is simply unacceptable.
The wider vision and thinking of MVRDV as an office devoted to urban density is explained in the Porocity research project for the transformation of the skyscraper, by nature an American and Asian typology and how to transform it into a typology that bears the same qualities such as an Italian mountain village, social, green and beautiful. He will explain the successful transformation of Rotterdam and how MVRDV took an important part in shaping it by making a popular building that spoke to the people, gained their trust and love and became the new icon of the cities transformation whilst the next project by the architects is making the 150.000 objects of the municipal art collection publicly accessible in a building that will be the most democratic art depot in the world.
